Welcome to Blackfriars @ The Ouseburn

Blackfriars @ The Ouseburn is a Community Centre and venue run by the St Vincent de Paul Society, a voluntary not-for-profit charity dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing direct practical help to people in need.

We are only 10-15 minutes’ walk from central Newcastle. Frequent buses stop outside the centre and Manors Metro Station is less than ½ mile away.

Daytime Community Activities

During the day, we host numerous activities, including dance classes and a parent and toddlers group.  Within the complex, we support clients with a variety of mental health issues and disabilities and offer client based art therapy and music appreciation.

Functions and Events

We have a large hall with capacity for 240 people. This has a sprung dance floor, (one of the last remaining in the region), a stage, full catering facilities and a licensed bar. The proximity to the city centre means that guests don’t have to worry about drinking and driving, as the hall has easy access for buses, taxis or the metro. Alternatively, guests can stay in one of the numerous hotels in the City.

The Hall is available for private hire at very reasonable rates throughout the year and every booking helps the SVP continue our good work. Details can be found on our functions page.

We also have an IT suite and large conference room, which can be hired out for smaller events, children’s parties, conferences or meetings.  Click here.

From October, we will be hosting an exciting new Community Cinema with a difference…

Blackfriars Ouseburn Cinema (The BOC) is a new not-for-profit, pop-up community interest cinema with regular screenings at Blackfriars @ The Ouseburn; a Community Centre run by the St Vincent de Paul Society, opposite the Tanners Arms on Byker Bridge.

The BOC will offer a different way to experience film. Screening in a large beautiful hall with a dimly-lit ‘cabaret style’ table set-up, a traditional intermission (during longer screenings) and even refreshments delivered directly to your seat!

Launching in October with twice weekly screenings, the BOC will show a mixture of independent, cult and classic films all at bargain prices with Full Price tickets only £5.00, Students/Seniors £3.50 and U18s/Concessions just £3.00.

We will also be hosting our first themed film parties; including a ‘Saturday Night Fever’ 70s Costume Film Party (on Saturday 8th October) and an ‘Addams Family’ Halloween Costume Film Party (on Saturday 29th October). Both nights will be real celebration of film and music with everyone encouraged to dress up, dance and singalong if they choose. For more info, directions and tickets, visit: http://bocnewcastle.org
